Oil, acrylic and chalk on glued and
partially white primed canvas
58 by 48 cm
The title "Colour by Numbers" encapsulates the structured yet vibrant chaos of modern life, where the interplay of technology and human emotions creates a rich tapestry of experiences. This color composition reflects the diversity and complexity inherent in contemporary existence, prompting a deeper examination of the relationship between humanity and technology. Through these works, I invite viewers to engage in personal interpretations, as the digital realm and the omnipresence of technology serve as a backdrop, represented by the binary symbols of ones and zeros.
To create these canvases, I began with a traditional preparation method, using rabbit skin glue to seal the surface for painting. Preliminary sketches were outlined in chalk, representing the foundational "zeros and ones." This was followed by a partial white priming that enhances contrast and depth, ensuring that subsequent colors appear either more vibrant or subdued. The complementary elements of blue, yellow, and pink harmonize with the initial sketches, forming a cohesive visual composition.
The dimensions of 58 cm x 48 cm, often referred to as "double A4" or "A2" in the realms of photography and painting, do not adhere precisely to standard A2 sizes. Instead, they evoke a sense of craftsmanship that transcends mere artistry, highlighting the self-production of the painting medium and the meticulous treatment with glue and primer—processes that are inherently human and not machine-made. This distinction emphasizes the contrast between human creativity and technological influence while playfully engaging with the overarching themes of the works.
